Zoltan Stoneworks recently completed work on the Eclipse Office Building in Fairfax, VA. This office building is made up of over 200 different offices. The main foyer is the length of a city block, about 2000 square feet. We were hired for this job to do what’s called a Marble Maintenance. A Marble Maintenance means that after a full restoration, we need to go back every 3 months and use either a crystallization method or a 1 step polishing process with 5X polishing powder to bring the shine back. If we don’t keep this up over time the floors will dull dramatically. If we keep up the 3 monthly maintenance plan, we are guaranteed that we will never have to do a full 4 step restoration crystallization process again.
This process can take us up to 5 hours to complete sometimes even longer. In this process, the first step used a 17″ steel wool pad on the buffer machine and a crystallizer spray under the pad while the machine is running. We need about one pump of crystallizer for each 20 square feet of floor we treat. It is important to know that crystallization is not recommended too often. It could easily clog the pores of the stone and stone could start breaking down from the inside out. We then use the 17″ hog hair pad on our 17″ machine. We need to spread 1.5 oz with 5 X polishing powder on the marble and start buffing process with a little water. The 1.5 oz 5X polishing powder will work for about 15-20 square feet area. If we keep up the 3 monthly maintenance plan, we guarantee that we never have to do a full 4 step restoration.
