You may be wondering the same thing many people are : how often do I need to reseal my marble and granite?
This is a question we are regularly asked by our natural stone customers, and depending on the level of regular care you give to your granite or marble counters, the answer may vary! Granite and marble countertops are more porous than quartz countertop, and therefore require regular maintenance. Some of our customers have yearly, standing appointments to seal their marble countertops and others call us when it’s needed. One thing to remember about natural stone is that it can never be oversealed, so if you’re unsure, err on the side of caution and call us to schedule an appointment today!
To test your countertops and see if they require resealing, you can perform the following test.
Pour a few drops of water directly on top of your granite or marble counters in various spots. Note the time, and wait 15-30 minutes. If the water remains on the surface of the countertop, they are sealed and protected! If the marble or granite darkens and the water has disappeared, the water was absorbed by the stone and it’s time to reseal your counter.
There are many easy ways to protect your natural stone counters to prolong the life of your sealant from wiping up spills quickly, to using cutting boards and hot plates when cooking and serving food. Whether it’s been 6 months or 6 years from your last re-sealing appointment, our team can get your counters shining like new. Call us at (202) 400-1541 to schedule your next appointment today
